Mystics Lead WNBA in Attendance After First Report

Posted on July 13, 2009

Wow. Business is booming at Verizon Center this summer. The team is playing a great brand of basketball and is young, exciting and rebuilt. We just beat the L.A. Sparks at home on Saturday night. The team has depth, stars and plays with passion. After four games, we are averaging 11,382 fans per game. That is a 33 percent increase over last season. We have increased our paid attendance by 49 percent year over year and ticket revenues are up more than 20 percent. We lead all WNBA teams this season to date in terms of total attendance and growth rates. If we end the season number 1, I promise though we WON'T hoist a banner in celebration. We will continue to invest in the team. Our goal is to win a WNBA championship on the floor - where it matters! We are starting to resemble the Washington Capitals now in a growth arc: Rebuild the team with young players; rebuild the staff; start to win; build infrastructure; work hard at customer relations; and show great growth in a tough economic time. Thank you Washington Mystics fans for your great support of women's basketball.

Weird Story of the Day

Squid - giant squid - get their senses messed up by an underwater earthquake and get washed up on shore. Click here to see this strange footage. Wow, I have never seen a squid like this before. This is pretty compelling video. So much for ordering calamari or squid as an appetizer ever
