Staying Up Late

Posted on March 29, 2011

For those of us who stayed up late, we all saw a fun and competitive basketball game last night from Utah. The Wizards are young and inexperienced and yes, we are short-handed. We are missing Nick Young, Andray Blatche, Josh Howard, Rashard Lewis and Trevor Booker. Am I allowed to say that? That is five of our top rotation players. We were playing on the road and in back to back games. So this is a good win; an OT win; and one where John Wall was a true leader and a great emerging young star in the NBA. He scored 28 points and our other rookie back court player, Jordan Crawford, scored 25 points. Two rookies in the same back court playing well and bonding on the floor makes me smile. Kudos to the players that are rallying around each other and having fun. John played almost 50 minutes last night. Too much we know but we are so short-handed that the coach doesn't have many other options and John loves the game and wants to play. It is great to see the young players and the staff working hard game by game to improve and to build a culture of hard work and "we are in it together" mentality. The team takes a red eye home; gets a day off; and then we play on Wednesday against the Miami Heat at home. It doesn't get any easier, does it? Tough schedule but it will feel wonderful to be home for the players and staff. A good win. Thank you.
