Capitals Move Into Second Place

We won last night against the Islanders - who have constructed a very good team, and passed them for the moment in the Metropolitan division. The standings are very tight after 15 games played and we are in the mix and generating standings points now. See here.

We have proven to have much depth at forward, and in goal. Without Alex Ovechkin, we didn't miss a beat, and he returned last night to the lineup and had 2 goals and an assist. He and Nick Backstrom are among the lead leaders in many statistical categories once again.

We have been weakened on defense with some injuries - but the unit is playing better as the new players are getting accustomed to each other and to playing in the NHL.

We have very good special teams play. In fact, this morning we are ranked number 1 in penalty kill, and number 1 in power play efficiency in the NHL. I am unsure if we have ever held the number 1 rank in both categories before in our history - perhaps someone can check and find out?

We play a home game on Thursday and then embark on perhaps the toughest set of games we will have all year - back to back - Saturday and Sunday in Phoenix and then in Colorado.

Thank you to all of our fans for your ongoing support. Go Caps! Take a tour of the pixels and video assets from around the web here, here, here, and here too.
