Never Seen It Before

Posted on February 13, 2014 by Ted Leonsis

First the "rain out"; and now the "foul out".  Two games against Houston this season, two never seen before sets of events.

We had three players foul out of a game last night and there was a 31 shot difference at the foul line with Houston going 47 times to the charity stripe. We went 16 times. The Wizards were out-scored from the foul line by 27 points last night.

In any other game, it would have been lights out and a blow out, but we shot 16 for 32 from the three-point line and took a lead with seconds to go in the game. Trevor Ariza himself hit ten three-point shots.

But with Gortat, Nene and Ariza all on the bench having fouled out,  Houston scored a lay up and made some last second foul shots to win an improbable game over us 113-112, after we came back from a 19-point deficit.

We have now lost our last two road games by a combined 3 points. The team is steaming and frustrated, as they know each of these games was winnable.

I am relieved that the All-Star break is here; as Nene said, "no comment as I don't want to get fined".

We shall let others talk and squawk and comment from all around the web, here, here and here.
