Thank You Wizards Fans

Last night was an exciting and emotional evening at Verizon Center. Toward the very end of the game, when it was apparent we weren’t going to pull it out, our fans stood and chanted: “Let’s Go Wiz-Ards!” It made me proud as I tried to reflect on our journey together. I was extremely gratifying to hear that support and reaction at that time – thank you all for being such great fans, classy and passionate throughout the entire season. We are committed to rewarding your patience and loyalty with winning basketball for a long, long time.

I also want to thank our players for a successful regular season and a return to the playoffs. We had a tremendous first-round series against Chicago but fell a little short against the East’s No. 1 team. In the end, the better team won and is advancing – congratulations to the Indiana Pacers organization; they performed better and earned their spot in the Eastern Conference finals. We learned a lot about ourselves during the regular season, and I’m certain the 11 playoff games will pay dividends for our younger players.

I am very appreciative of the fine work exhibited not only by our players but also our staff, the front office and everyone associated with the Verizon Center and the Wizards. We met several goals we had established for this year, and I am happy that the rebuild plan we communicated to all was a good one and that it set the foundation for our go-forward plan in a positive way.

Our community deserves excellence and world-class operations, and we intend to deliver that on an ongoing basis. We now enter the non-playing portion of the year (I don’t think we can rightfully call it the off-season) with several decisions ahead of us – that’s an annual occurrence and the nature of the business. I realize this is a consistent refrain, but we will take a step back, remove some of the raw emotion from the thought process and then make the best decisions for our franchise. At that point we will have clarity, and we will be straight forward with you and share our plans, as we always have done.

I am grateful to all of you and how you have shared and embraced our plan. I am, however, disappointed we didn't move on to the next round of the playoffs. Our focus will be improving the team and taking the next step.

I only have positive feelings and gratitude for you all; thank you so much.
