StingraysPosted on June 26, 2014 by Ted Leonsis
The Capitals just announced our “new” ECHL affiliation with the South Carolina Stingrays. And if that sounds familiar, it’s because we previously enjoyed a good working relationship with that organization between 2004 and 2012. Read more about today’s news here.
South Carolina has won three Kelly Cups, including one while affiliated with the Capitals (2008-09), since the organization was formed prior to the 1993-94 season. If you find yourself near North Charleston during the hockey season, checkout the schedule and see if the Stingrays are in town.
The ECHL continues to be the leading development league for the AHL, but it isn’t what it used to be. Formed in 1988-89, the ECHL now has a national presence with more than 20 franchises, including teams in Alaska, California, Ohio, Colorado, New York, Indiana, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Idaho, Utah, Michigan, Las Vegas, West Virginia and Ontario.Posted in: Sports
