Alcohol as a Right of Passage?Posted on July 25, 2013 by Ted Leonsis
Here is a
disturbing statistic. Some experts have estimated that 1,700 college students
die each year from substance abuse, largely alcohol, often in connection with
their social groups, especially fraternities. Georgetown
University does not have Greek life, so I never experienced hazing, but almost
every year I read a news story where it gets so out of control that someone is
seriously injured or dies.
Perhaps eliminate hazing is unrealistic, but we must bring awareness to the issue to bring change. A term I coined, "filmanthropy," turns in part on harnessing the effectiveness of films to catalyze change.
We believe that "Haze" is such a film. Shocking, provocative and impossible to ignore. Click here to watch.
