Lots of famous films have been shot in whole or in part in Rio: "Moonraker", "City of God", Twilight’s "Breaking Dawn", even the last "Incredible Hulk" all come to mind.

Here’s one you may not have seen before, part of SnagFilm’s Top Ten Award-Winners series: "Favela Rising". Winner of nine major film festival awards, the film is the story of Anderson Sá, who rises out of the favelas (shanty towns) to use hip-hop and Afro-Brazilian dance to create a political movement aimed at ending the incredible violence and police corruption in his community.

Between 1987 and 2001, nearly 4,000 minors were murdered in Rio. See how one man’s response fuses Afro-Reggae into a movement. "Favela Rising". It's tough, gritty, shocking and real.
