This report published in Fortune magazine posts that there are only 100 or so active venture capital firms operating in North America today.
"Active" meaning that the firm invests at minimum $1 million per quarter, 4 times per year.
Read this one. There is a lot of money in private equity chasing deals. But for real start ups - true risk capital; there is a smaller pool of firms actively in the market.
