The Only Game I've Had Fun at this SeasonPosted on April 26, 2013 by Ted Leonsis
Last night was the first time this entire season that I enjoyed the game; we lost in OT to Ottawa 2-1, we gained a point and now have 55 for the season.
I didn't feel the pressure of other games where it seemed like every point was mandatory and every single game mattered in the playoff race. Despite the OT loss, we are still in the third spot having clinched the SE Division title the previous game.
I entertained many
friends in the Owners Box last night, and during the third period, I went
into the stands and sat with Mrs Ovechkin. I was seated next to her
when Alex scored his league-leading 32nd goal of the season. That was pretty cool. Getting a high five and a kiss on the cheek
from Tatyana Ovechkin.
When we clinched the playoff spot earlier this week, I felt great relief, not joy. I no longer enjoy the winning as much. I just hate losing. My outlook towards this process of ownership has changed and morphed over the year. I am not sure this is a good thing, I feel less like a fan and more like a person with a deep social responsibility.
Before the game, in the concourse, a fan pointed out to me with great enthusiasm that so far this year, the Nationals, Redskins, and Capitals had all won division or conference crowns for the fans of Washington DC. I thought that was a great fact, and I thanked the fan. But internally, I was disappointed in myself for not winning a division crown for the Wizards and their fans as well. I feel like I let the city down.
I am just letting you all know how it feels right now. My outlook has changed.
Onward to our last game of the season on Saturday, and then by Sunday we will know our playoff opponent and our schedule. Stay tuned. Here is stuff from around the web, click here, here, here, here and here. Go Caps!Posted in: Sports
