The Real Big East

Posted on March 09, 2013 by Ted Leonsis

That was a great game today - Georgetown beat Syracuse handily, and the Verizon Center was rocking and was as loud as I can remember it. I was so proud to be a Georgetown alum. I sat with my son next to Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning. My daughter was in the stands with her classmates, and the crowd was buzzing and the student section was really entertaining with their signs and chants.

We saw big head signs for Otto Porter. We saw signs with President Clinton, with Linda Blair of "Exorcist" fame. We saw funny signs wishing Syracuse well and goodbye from the Big East, and the chants of "ACC! ACC! ACC!" where quite the send-off to a great rivalry.

Goodbye, Orangemen. Georgetown closed out your old arena, closed out the final series with a sweep, and gets to continue to play in a newly constructed Big East - the real Big East.

I think Syracuse will be sorry that they made this move and will miss playing against Georgetown.

On to the Big East tournament and then the NCAA March Madness tournament. Hoya Saxa!
